Flesh Eating Diaper Rash is No Joke!

FeaturedFlesh Eating Diaper Rash is No Joke!

Last week my 10 month old daughter had what has to be the worst diaper rash in the history of diaper rashes. It seriously looked like her skin was being incinerated by some flesh-eating disease. She was miserable, and I felt helpless. She would scream during diaper changes. I had been putting expensive diaper cream on the rash. It cost a lot, so it had to work, right? Nope. It seemed to only get worse. After a few days of this, I had enough. I had to do something about it, my baby was hurting! I stopped using my store-bought wipes and made my own out of paper towels, water, and Renew Lotion. I made a mixture of essential oils to soothe and heal (see recipe below). I applied the oil mixture and more Renew lotion at each diaper change, and within 12 hours the rash was significantly better. A few hours later, she no longer cried during diaper changes. And now, a couple days later, the rash has been reduced to a couple small bumps. Success! Happy baby = happy mommy! Getting rid of toxic chemicals and using nature-based products really does work!

Diaper Rash Essential Oil Mixture:

2 drops Lavender

2 drops Roman (or German) Chamomile

2 Tbs Jojoba oil (or another carrier oil, such as Coconut oil)

**Remember that quantities and proportions are important when working with essential oils, especially when using them on babies.

**Also remember to store your oil mixtures in amber or cobalt glass (not plastic) bottles away from heat or direct sunlight. Essential oils will break down plastic and heat and sunlight breaks down the effectiveness of the oils.

Activate-C Immune Complex: Product Review

Activate-C Immune Complex: Product Review

With cold and flu season upon us, it is more and more important that we take care of our health. Missing a day of work to stay home with a sick child is not always easy. Then there are the trips to the doctor and resulting doctor bills. Lets face it, it is better to stay healthy than to get sick. This may seem like a no-brainer, but so many people neglect the necessary precautions to prevent themselves from getting sick. And before people jump to conclusions, this is not about vaccinations. This is about overall health.

For some, this may go without saying, but when it comes to our health, it is important to pay attention to what goes into our bodies. Reduce sugar, eat fruits and veggies, get plenty of exercise and a good night’s rest. All of that is good and needs to be done. However, admittedly there are times when the inevitable happens…the sniffles. Kids are around a lot of germs at schools (I can not tell you how many times I had to tell a student to go back to the bathroom and wash their hands). Kids bring those germs home. Germs are in public restrooms at the stores. Germs are on doorknobs. Germs are everywhere. Without a healthy immune system, people would always be sick!

This happened to my family last week. We all came down with the sniffles. I was told about a Immune Complex drink mix that I had not yet tried. Similar to Emergen-C in concept, Activate-C is packed with Vitamin C and Zinc, the 2 main immunity boosters.

Activate-C Emergen-C
10 Calories

2 g Sugar

1,200 mg Vitamin C

15 IU Vitamin E

15 mg Zinc

50 mg Astragalus (root) Extract

25 mg Aronia melanocarpa (root) Extract

25 Calories

5 g Sugar

1,000 mg Vitamin C

2 mg Zinc

10 mg Vitamin B6

25 mg mcg Vitamin B12

It looked good, so I thought I’d give it a try. I poured 1 packet of the powder into a glass of water and drank it. My first thought…This tastes like Orange Crush! It was actually pretty good! Fewer calories and sugar than Emergen-C, too!

The result? I felt worlds better within 12 hours. I drank another one the next morning to be sure I was getting the proper vitamins. Did it cure my cold? No. Am I able to function and do everything that needs to be done as a work-at-home, stay-at-home-mommy? Absolutely. Apart from a little sinus congestion/runny nose, I’m as good as new! No other product has worked as fast for me. I’m a forever fan.

Clear The House!

Clear The House!

Quick! Get out of the house!

Next to cleaning a bathroom that belongs to a teenage boy who can’t find the toilet, the worst thing to clean is the oven. Spray the strong oven cleaner in the oven and clear the house for a few hours while it sets. No one is safe around the toxic cleaners and their strong smells. Not your kids, not your pets, not you. I think it is safe to say this one item in the house is the most-neglected item when it comes to cleaning.

May I offer a better solution? No, it does not require purchasing a new oven every few months. I recently discovered a really powerful, yet completely safe, heavy-duty cleaner, called MelaMagic. And, like the name suggests, it truly is magic. Let me explain.

Today, with my 1 year old daughter in the room, I sprayed my oven with MelaMagic cleaner. Knowing that my daughter would get in the way while I wiped it down, I put her down for a nap. Upon returning, approximately 5 minutes later, I got out a rag and a scrubber. With little effort, I used the scrubber to scrub the oven. I then used the rag to wipe it down. That’s it. From start to finish, it took about 10 minutes. No sweat. No effort. And absolutely no toxic fumes.

Stains at Their Worst

Stains at Their Worst

All this time I have been using it wrong. I could not get stains out of my daughter’s clothes! I knew the products were amazing, but no matter what I did, the Laundry Pre-Spot would not get stains out of clothes. I used the Pre-Spot and washed the clothes as normal. Threw them in the dryer. Stains seemed to be more stubborn than the Pre-Spot. Until today. Victory over stains has been won. I had been using it incorrectly! A happy little accident turned into an “ah-ha” moment for this mommy!

Let me explain. I did my laundry as usual last Friday. Sprayed the Pre-Spot stain remover on my daughter’s clothes, let it set for a little while, then threw it in the washing machine with the rest of the clothes. Forgetting it was in there, I threw it in the dryer without checking to see if the stain came out. Coming out of the dryer, it was still stained. Take 2. This time, I set the clothes out, sprayed it, and let it completely dry. Forgetting about it once again, I checked on it 3 days later. I was amazed to find the stain was gone! Without putting it in the washing machine again!

Bottom Line: This Pre-Spot is AMAZING!!! The trick is to let the pre-spot stay on the stain until it dries! I’m a forever fan.

Beginning My Journey: Food

Beginning My Journey: Food

With fast food restaurants offering a quick on-the-run “meal,” is it any wonder why obesity is on the rise? It is easy. It is fast. Grab a bite to eat while on the run. Preparing healthy meals take time and money. In our fast-paced, quick-fix, technology-driven society, eating right and exercise become a challenge. I got to a point where I was tired of laziness. It was time to do something about it, and as my pastor has recently said, “Something has to be done about it, and it might as well be me.” I started looking for ways I can make my life healthier and safer, starting with food.

With no health food store close to where I live, I had to get creative and smart with the items I bought from the grocery store. This is still a process for me. I have not completely switched over my eating habits, and yes, the price of the healthy food is a factor. I had a lot, and still have a lot, of questions about how to eat healthy on a budget. Simply going with “organic” isn’t always an option as prices rise. I’ve had to pick and choose what to get organic.

We started with milk. While a little more expensive, we switched to Royal Crest Dairy for our milk. But, why start with milk? I wanted to avoid hormones that are put into some store-bought milk. Knowing that I was going to give birth to a baby girl, and that hormones in milk stimulate early puberty in girls, I knew this had to be the first thing to change. I have seen girls begin to go through puberty at a very early age, as early as the 3rd grade in some, and I want my baby girl to stay a kid as long as possible. I believe that girls that young should be more worried about playing and learning than about carrying the right “supplies” every month, not to mention the embarrassment young girls feel when the need to use the restroom for hygiene reasons arises.

I can’t get everything delivered, however. So, when available, I like purchasing my fresh produce at a farmer’s market. This is, unfortunately, seasonal. Once they close, produce must be purchased at the grocery store. At the grocery store, I try to buy organic fresh produce. The price is a little higher, but not enough to worry about. There is always the question in my mind as I buy the organic produce, however. Is it really safe? Is it really healthier than the non-organic? This is something I’m still researching and evaluating. However, there is comfort in the USDA Organic sticker/label. While some chemicals may be still used in the process taken from planting the food to the purchase in the grocery store, I’m sure it is better than those without the label.

I am slowly making the switch to other organic products…very slowly. Price is an issue when it comes to the pre-packaged foods. Organic foods are considerably more expensive than the non-organic. I look for the good deals and sales, but these don’t happen frequently enough. And I haven’t even begun researching which meats are best. Like I said, it is a journey. One that is far from over, but one I hope to share with others as we learn together. Will you join me?
