Last week my 10 month old daughter had what has to be the worst diaper rash in the history of diaper rashes. It seriously looked like her skin was being incinerated by some flesh-eating disease. She was miserable, and I felt helpless. She would scream during diaper changes. I had been putting expensive diaper cream on the rash. It cost a lot, so it had to work, right? Nope. It seemed to only get worse. After a few days of this, I had enough. I had to do something about it, my baby was hurting! I stopped using my store-bought wipes and made my own out of paper towels, water, and Renew Lotion. I made a mixture of essential oils to soothe and heal (see recipe below). I applied the oil mixture and more Renew lotion at each diaper change, and within 12 hours the rash was significantly better. A few hours later, she no longer cried during diaper changes. And now, a couple days later, the rash has been reduced to a couple small bumps. Success! Happy baby = happy mommy! Getting rid of toxic chemicals and using nature-based products really does work!
Diaper Rash Essential Oil Mixture:
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Roman (or German) Chamomile
2 Tbs Jojoba oil (or another carrier oil, such as Coconut oil)
**Remember that quantities and proportions are important when working with essential oils, especially when using them on babies.
**Also remember to store your oil mixtures in amber or cobalt glass (not plastic) bottles away from heat or direct sunlight. Essential oils will break down plastic and heat and sunlight breaks down the effectiveness of the oils.
